Talking To Turtles

Label (World)

This mixed duo is one of our rare German acts we’ve worked with since 2009. Florian Sievers (vocals & guitar) and Claudia Göhlert (keys & vocals) are living in our 2nd favorite German city Leipzig and released three albums via DevilDuck Records.

The first one was called “Monologue” (2010) and recorded in a friend’s living room in Berlin – of course it was kinda low key, but it already showed their unique sound with melancholic and quirky vocals and a great sense of songwriting which to us is kinda unusual over there.

The second “Oh, The Good Life” (2011) has been released just one year after their debut album, but was recorded in Seattle, WA as this has always been one of my dreams as the North West is probably one of my most loved places in the world.

‚and the Highway streams beneath our buds – upriver we leave sparks.‘  – three years after their highly recommended “American Recording” the duo released their 3rd and still current album „Split“ (2014) which is a consequent development of their beautiful indie-pop nuggets. This is full of small details you might not get when listening first and shows Talking To Turtles deeper and without any musical compromises. The whole album was produced and mixed by German friends Simon Frontzek (Torpus & The Art Directors, Thees Uhlmann, Aloa Input, Sir Simon) in two sessions in his studio in Berlin and gave them much more time to work on than on album number two. It might be a bit more electronic which we sometimes don’t like at DevilDuck, but if this results in 10 great new songs so what? „Mastermind“ Doug van Sloun (Brighty Eyes, Damien Jurado, Azure Ray) gave it the last little bit of brilliance.

After playing lots of shows in Europe and the USA (incl. 3 x SXSW in Austin/TX), opening up for  Angus and Julia Stone, First Aid Kit and Hundreds they are doing a break at the moment writing new songs and will be back with a new album in 2019.
